Education/Background:
Marissa grew up studying a range of dance styles, including contemporary, modern, lyrical, jazz, ballet/pointe and tap. She received her BA in Dance from Connecticut College, where she received the 2018 Dance Department Award “for demonstrating with excellence the scope of dance as a poetic and communicative art form”. While studying at Conn, Marissa had the opportunity to dance in original work by David Dorfman, Heidi Henderson, Lisa Race and Derrick Yanford.
Performance/Choreography:
Marissa enjoys performing a variety of dance styles and specializes in contemporary, modern and heels. She is currently a company member with Buoy Band and Urbanity 2. Marissa also choreographs and performs her own original solo work, which she has presented at events throughout the region, including the Salem Arts Festival, NACHMO Boston and various collaborative dance concerts. Throughout her career Marissa has also performed as a guest with Metamorphosis Dance Company, GUSTO Dance and Allo Movement Project.
Teaching:
In addition to performing and choreographing, Marissa teaches at multiple studios. Although she has experience teaching dance to all ages, she specializes in early childhood/children’s classes, and has been working with young children in both dance and education settings for over 10 years.
